Jollys Cornwall Ccombination League

HAYLE      3    MULLION   0

In game that the three points were going to be invaluable to either side, in the final analysis Hayles'  more attacking style and solid defence prevailed. The opening 15 minutes aw both sides attempts on goal thwarted by the whisker of a post or poor finishing. On 15 minutes Hayle took the lead with a well taken effort by George Hatton, sent through with a precise pass from Kevin Lawrence, George finished in the corner past the advancing keeper. Hayle hit the bar and had several more attempts at goal, but failed to capitalise on the strong wind at their backs, falling foul of Mullion's offside trap to often. The second period saw Hayle play more controlled football, into the strong wind, but missing two easy chances to increase their lead, through poor finishing. For a time Mullion pressurised and looked the more likely to score, however the wind took the ball away from their front men to often, and when they did hit the target Bryan Scoffin was in the right place to save. It was through a keeping error that Hayle extended their lead on 75 minutes after the visitors keeper failed to clear and Thomas nipped in to slot home into an empty net, from a tight angle. Mullion rallied briefly but a well judged lob from Lawrence saw Hayle increase their lead on 85 minutes.

Hayle 1 Falmouth Town 3

With a bit of luck and a goal scorer,  Hayle could have taken something from this game, however as with the SWPL team our lack of killer instinct in front of goal, cost us again. An opportunity for an early strike eluded Craig Rennard whose header was not strong enough or accurate allowing the visiting keeper time to save. Falmouth came on strong and took the lead on 15 minutes when a needless penalty was awarded. The Falmouth attacker was going nowhere and the ball was running out of play when he was upended. Goal two followed shortly after when the defence failed to clear a ball and it was converted from 10 yards. Hayle came back and should have had a penalty when a crude two footed challenge left Rennard on the floor, However the referee waved play on and the moment was gone. Reenard soon had the Falmouth defence all over the place again and this time he converted at the second attempt. 2-1 would have been satisfactory at half time, but the ball was needlessly given away on the half way line and with the Hayle defence in attack mode, Falmouth strolled in to convert off the post. The second 45 saw Falmouth very wasteful, with their shooting aimed straight at or over Scoffin. At the other end the suspect defence was giving us a few chances and Danny Ford was guilty of missing two one on one's with the keeper stranded. So lack of finishing power cost the team a point at least and maybe an upset.

Hayle 2 Wendron 2

On paper a close encounter was envisaged, and so it turned out to be. Wendron were let down by their poor finishing giving Scoffin little to do in the way of saves, Hayle for their part were let down by the inability to finish when in a one on one situation with the opposing keeper. Early play was fairly even with the visitors edging the midfield, until probably against the whole run of play Ben Reddock was left with the simple task of scoring from 6 yards from Marcus Bawden’s cross. Two minutes before half time a completely bizarre incident occurred, where a Wendron player headed the ball out and the referee gave the throw to the visitors, who from the throw crossed and a looping header held up by the wind beat Scoffin to level the scores. By this time both sides had been reduced to 10 men, with Ryan Williams and Christian Lett, for the visitors, having been dismissed for violent conduct. The second 45 promised to be lively with Hayle defending against the wind, but it was again against the run of play that they increased their lead, when Craig Rennard was put through, after good work by Steve Hunt and Kane Williams, beating the keeper with a neat side step and finish.. Minutes later Wendron were level, from a corner, which the home defence failed to deal with.
One more throw of the dice Liam Mooney just failed to beat the keeper to the ball and suffered a broken leg for his troubles. The visitors then had a goal disallowed before the final whistle proved a fair result for both sides

Hayle 2 Penzance 1

A quick return fixture after the 0-0 draw at Penlee two weeks ago. Hayle set the pace early on and had the ball in the back of the visitors net on 10 minutes. A through ball taken out to the right by Liam Mooney, who pulled it back from the goal line, straight on to Danny Fords head. From 6 yards out a powerful header beat the keeper and was handled into the net by a defender. The referee at first awarded the goal, and then gave a free kick to Penzance. It transpired after the game that he alleged Ford had said “my ball”, a fact denied by all concerned. Then within 4 minutes Ford hit the post with a 25 yard free kick that bounced away to safety. At the other end Gendall saved one handed from Marcus Smith to round off an eventful first 45. The second half saw Hayle as lively as the first, Ford and then Mooney should have done better with chances to score, but last ditch defending saw the visitor’s goal intact. Two good shouts for penalties were turned away. First Mooney was hauled down, by namesake Dean, and then a hand ball with the shot heading goal wards. With 10 minutes left to play a seemingly innocuous cross found Liam Mooney pop up from literally nowhere and volley the ball into the top of the net via the crossbar, unstoppable. Penzance came back almost immediately and struck the crossbar when it was odds on to score. Then a bit of a mix up and the ball was slid under Gendall’s body. 1-1 with 2 minutes to go.
Long up field clearance ball hits the Penzance defender on the shoulder, plays Ford onside, he slips away and side foots into the corner, having played the last 45 with a hamstring injury.
