Hayle 1 - 2 St Day
The first team jinx struck down a division, with the reserves falling at the last, although this time it wasn’t a penalty. Up until that 89th minute strike it looked for all the world that an upset was on the cards. The first 45 saw the home side not exactly struggle but giving the visitors too much respect, in fact the goal in the 14th minute, was one of the few decent strikes on target for the whole of the half. Steve Luke had looked in good nick saving several times when the visitors threatened. The home side never really put the away keeper to the test, until Sam Charlton and Billy Curtis came on as subs with 20 minutes to go. Almost immediately Sam got in behind the defence and shot across the goal narrowly missing the far post. Billy Curtis meanwhile was on both wings taking corners and it was from one of these on the right that a failed clearance came back to him and from the resulting cross Charlton bundled the ball in the net. Five minutes later Sam should have put us in the lead from another cross this time from the left he managed to scoop the ball over the bar from close in. Then JD worked a bit of space with Billy, only to see his 20 yard effort hit the bar with the keeper well beaten. Two other chances came and went with the visitors clearly rattled, only for Steve Luke to make a good save from a free kick ,unfortunately he could only parry and Lawrence following in tapped into the net. The relief for the visitors was clear to see, and the disbelief for the home side much the same.

Hayle 2 - 1 Newquay
Only the first game of the season and already Dean and Dave have played their get out of jail card and their Joker. Although in fairness Newquay have only themselves to blame, for the result. Having the better chances of the game ,and only testing Steve Luke once, in 90 minutes!
Newquay started well and launched a wave of attacks at the Hayle goal, but didn’t get closer than the 18 yard box, due to some resolute defending. When they did get a shot in, it was well off target or straight at Luke! In the first real home attack, Dominic Clemmens forced a flying save from the visitors keeper,
Elliot Harris was flying on the wing and several good crosses went astray. Then on 25 minutes and against the run of play, Graham Stirr sent Sam Charlton through, he beat the defender for pace and pushed the ball round the keeper, it appeared to go too far and at a very narrow angle to goal, however he managed to screw it across and into the net. So 1-0 and just on half time Newquay hit the angle of the post from a free kick with Luke beaten. The second period had Hayle with the wind at their tales and it showed with some determined attacking, without any reward. Newquay hit back but once again, over elaboration in front of goal, poor finishing and resolute defending ,kept the 1-0 in tact. On 70 minutes Elliot Harris whipped in a low cross, Dominic Clemmens appeared form nowhere, completely surprised the keeper and slipped the ball in at his near post. This seemed to deflate Newquay , but also lulled Hayle into a false sense of security and they let the end go a bit, allowing the visitors more freedom, hence they pulled one back on 83 minutes. This led to some frenzied defending and the giving away of free kicks around the 18 yard perimeter, which all were fortunately wasted. So with a makeshift team 3 welcome points to start the season.
